Weeknotes #47 -Christmas Escape edition

2 minutes reading time

10 Dec - 16 Dec 2018

It was our work Christmas party this weekend. We visited Escape Hunt in Birmingham. It was fabulous. One, because we managed to escape with a little over 5 minutes to spare, and two, because it was loads of fun. I’d love to do some of their other escape rooms too.

After that, we headed to the Cube for a meal and then stayed overnight. We had a leisurely breakfast together before having a browse around some shops and experienced our first Tim Horton’s coffee and doughnuts.

Reading Progress

I’ve been making steady progress with both It doesn’t have to be crazy at work_and _7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

I finished Sleepers. I really enjoyed this book. Parts of it was hard to read, in the sense that the scenes at the Wilkinson Home for Boys were quite harrowing, and doubly so because the book is also heavily based on a true story.

I’m hopeful that I’ll acheive my GoodReads 2018 Reading Challenge at the current rate of completion.

A week in Stoicism

Week 3 of the SMRT training course returned back to more mindfulness training, using a leaves on a stream visualisation to practice worry postponement. The self-monitoring chart has extended again from tracking the number of times you had and rating your adherence to your values to also pay more attention to the total time you “wasted” on those thoughts or activities. I’ve been finding that it’s been a helpful practice that I will try to continue to cultivate mindfulness throughout the day.

Therefore train yourself without hesitation to say in response to every harsh appearance that “you are merely an appearance and in no way the thing appearing.”_  Epictetus
